Prescription Drug Addiction Treatment

Prescription medications can be just as addictive as illicit drugs — and withdrawal can be just as dangerous. Our specialized program provides medically supervised detox and evidence-based treatment for prescription drug dependence.

Prescription Doesn't Mean Safe

Many people develop dependence on medications that were originally prescribed by a doctor. Prescription drug addiction can develop gradually — and by the time you realize there's a problem, stopping on your own may be dangerous or overwhelmingly difficult.

At Connected Recovery Inc., we treat prescription drug dependence with the same clinical rigor as any other substance use disorder. Our medical team manages withdrawal safely while our therapists help you develop healthier coping strategies and address any underlying conditions.

Medications We Treat

  • Opioid painkillers — Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Morphine
  • Benzodiazepines — Xanax, Valium, Klonopin, Ativan
  • Prescription stimulants — Adderall, Ritalin, Vyvanse
  • Sleep medications — Ambien, Lunesta, Sonata
  • Muscle relaxants — Soma, Flexeril
  • Gabapentinoids — Gabapentin, Pregabalin
  • Barbiturates and other sedatives

Three Categories of Prescription Drug Addiction

Opioid Painkillers

Oxycodone, hydrocodone, and similar medications act on opioid receptors. Physical dependence can develop within weeks of regular use. MAT is often recommended.

Benzodiazepines & Sedatives

Xanax, Valium, and similar drugs. Withdrawal can be life-threatening and requires gradual, medically managed tapering — never abrupt cessation.

Stimulant Medications

Adderall, Ritalin, and similar ADHD medications. Psychological dependence can be profound. Treatment focuses on behavioral therapy and coping skills.

Why Medical Supervision Is Critical

Benzodiazepine Withdrawal Risks

Abrupt benzodiazepine cessation can cause seizures, psychosis, and life-threatening complications. Our medical team uses a gradual, carefully managed tapering protocol to minimize risk and discomfort.

Opioid Withdrawal Management

While opioid withdrawal is rarely fatal, it is extremely uncomfortable and drives relapse. Our medical team uses comfort medications and MAT to ease symptoms and support a successful detox.
