Relapse Prevention
Relapse is not a failure — it's a process that can be prevented with the right skills and support. Our relapse prevention program equips clients with practical tools to maintain long-term recovery.
Relapse Is a Process, Not an Event
Research shows that relapse typically unfolds in three stages — emotional, mental, and physical — long before a person actually returns to substance use. Our relapse prevention program teaches clients to recognize the early warning signs and intervene before the relapse progresses.
We use evidence-based approaches including cognitive-behavioral strategies, mindfulness-based relapse prevention, and practical coping skills training. Every client leaves our program with a personalized relapse prevention plan they can use in real-world situations.

The Three Stages of Relapse
Emotional Relapse
Poor self-care, bottling up emotions, isolating, not going to meetings. The person isn't thinking about using yet, but behavior sets the stage.
Mental Relapse
An internal battle: part of the person wants to use, part doesn't. Cravings return, glamorizing past use, minimizing consequences, planning use.
Physical Relapse
The actual return to substance use. By this point the emotional and mental relapse process has been underway for days or weeks.
